Thanks, Rubies – this month’s box really was a lovely surprise!

Emanual Ungaro Diva Rose Perfume Sample

Yippee for a new perfume sample – I haven’t tried it yet, but I love that Rubybox keeps me stocked up on perfume samples to enjoy while hanging around at home or after a nice long bath. Listen to how decadent this sounds: “intoxicating bouquet of Bulgarian rose combines with fresh, fruity bergamot, litchi, and crushed green leaves.” Yum!

Peppertree Blueberry Hand and Body Lotion

This is a massive 300ml full-sized product, and made my Ruybox feel delightfully heavy and promising when the delivery driver handed it to me. πŸ˜€ It’s lightly scented but smells absolutely delicious and totally edible. While it’s touted as being for both hands and body, it’s a bit too thin for my own hand cream preferences so I think this will make a great after-bath body lotion in these summer months – is there anything better than having an excuse to smell like mouth-watering fruit? I think not. πŸ˜›

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Blue My Mind

I adore this colour in the bottle! The photograph makes it look purely blue but in the bottle it’s a blue-purple shade that is just too beautiful. I love getting nail polishes to try out and the fact that this is quick-drying and nice and bright makes it ideal for me.

Yardley Colour Rush Lipstick in Creamy Blush

The perfect colour for my complexion, this lipstick is absolutely “like my lips, but better”. It can give lovely intense colour or be blended a little bit for softer colour, is creamy soft, and has the tiniest bit of shimmer in it to make it even better. I love the velvety packaging as well. All in all, what a treat!

Swatchy-swatchy. πŸ˜€

I feel thoroughly spoiled, thanks, Rubies!

August 2013 Rubybox

August 8, 2013 § Leave a comment

It’s that time of month again, guys! My Rubybox arrived quickly and with no mess or fuss, this morning – what a pleasure! So without further ado, here’s what the Rubies spoiled me with this month:

001 002 005 003 004 006

Bramley Magnolia Body Butter Sample

This is such a cute little sample, perfect for keeping in my handbag or next to my bed for those terribly-dry winter hands that we always seem to get! It smells gorgeous and has a lovely, rich consistency that will be an absolute life-saver.

Nutriwomen Oxygenating Papaya Masque sample

Apparently this masque uses natural papaya enzymes to remove dead skin cell build-up – another wonderful thing for winter, and a product that I’ve never tried before, so I’m very excited to give this one a go!

Rubybox Tools Concealer Brush full size

By now you should all know how much I adore the Rubybox Tools range – I think it’s so cool that we all get to try the tools out for free with our boxes and thus build a collection of really lovely beauty helpers. I have always said that using good-quality brushes can make a world of difference when applying make-up, and the Rubies are helping us tremendously in this regard! This is a beautiful, elegant little concealer brush, and now I simply MUST go out and buy a great quality concealer to use this with. πŸ˜€

TLC Acne Wash Cleansing Facial Wipes full size

And this big packet is what made my box so invitingly heavy this month! While I prefer using soap and water on my face because it makes me feel clean, I will try these on those stubborn blackhead-prone areas afterwards, since they claim to contain ingredients that actively fight those little suckers. Is this the miracle cure? I’ll keep you all in the loop. πŸ˜›

Deep Heat Bath Tonic sample

This is for aching and tired muscles, sooooo…I guess this might be the kick in the pants that I need to start with my exercise routine again after taking WAAAAY too long off of it after my operation. I have to have sore muscles to test this properly, right? Right.

I am a VERY happy customer this month, and I really do love my Rubybox! Now to see what September has in store for me…hopefully there’ll be a perfume sample in that one, as I do so enjoy my little perfume samples. ^_^

July 2013 Rubybox

It’s Rubybox day, woohoo! One of my favourite days of the month. πŸ˜€

Here’s what was in my Rubybox this month:

Lash Card sample

This is, to me, the disappointment of the box. The idea behind it is simple enough – it’s a piece of cardboard/paper/whatever that you hold behind your eyelashes (basically between your eyelid and eyelash) while applying mascara so that your mascara does not smudge all over your eyelid. While I do agree that it’s a valid concern for people like me with crazy long lashes, I have been managing without this product…and managing rather well. I put my mascara on absolutely first, before foundation or anything like that, and just clean the smudges up afterwards with a wet earbud. So I’m not sure whether I’ll use these or pass them on to my mom to try instead.

Rubybox Beauty Va Va Voom Mascara in Black full size

I am quite chuffed with this one (although I obviously haven’t had a chance to try it out yet). My mascara is looking a little dry and payday seems ages away so I’m sure that this won’t go amiss – and who knows, maybe I’ll love it more than my holy grail of Maybelline Define-A-Lash! I like that Rubybox has their own line of beauty tools and now obviously beauty products – I trust them to stay on trend and deliver in terms of quality. Speaking of their Rubybox tools though; I never got a blusher brush or an eyeliner sharpener, and I’d really love to have the full set…wink, nudge. πŸ˜€

John Frieda Frizz Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo sample

To be fair, this is a seriously generous sample of 50ml. I always eye these products in Clicks but of course I can’t afford to switch to them with the way that my hair devours shampoo and conditioner. Let’s just say that these samples are a lovely little treat for my winter hair.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Conditioner sample

Yes, the Rubies gave us the set, yay! They both look so nice on my bathroom table just waiting to make my hair soft and shiny and lustrous. I opened the conditioner (just to see, you know?) and it smells AMAZING. I can’t stop sniffing my fingers. Next stop, use on actual hair. πŸ˜‰

June 2013 Rubybox

June 25, 2013 § Leave a comment

Rubybox, yippee! My review is a little late, but you know what they say – there’s never a bad time to show everyone your new beauty goodies (or is that ‘better late than never’?)…either way, here we go!

Just to refresh your memories (if you’ve forgotten what a Rubybox is), it’s a little box that gets delivered within the first two weeks of every month, and it contains fabulous little samples and sometimes full-sized products of various beauty products. The price used to be R100 a month but for new subscribers it is now R120 a month, and it’s like getting given a gift for twelve months of the year.

This month’s box had gorgeous packaging…and I am such a sucker for packaging. πŸ˜‰

010 012

Alila Lipstick full size

I am very chuffed about this one! I’m trying desperately to get into the swing of wearing stuff on my lips, and this is a gorgeous cool-toned red that makes teeth look whiter. It also seems to leave a bit of a stain behind on the skin, which will make the colour last even longer. πŸ™‚

013 034

Body Choice Sponge full size

While I haven’t had a chance to try this out yet (exfoliating without water feels a bit strange to me) I think that this is definitely the week for it. I like the way that it sounds in the description and it’s awesome to get a full-sized product that I would not normally buy (the whole point of Rubybox, actually – try before you buy). πŸ™‚

Ponds All-In-One Even Tone Expert BB Cream samples

Sheesh, what a mouthful! Unfortunately I cannot try this BB cream out, as (with every BB cream I’ve ever encountered) it is WAY too dark for my fair skin and makes me look horribly and obviously orange. I hope my mother and sister will be able to get some use out of these generous sachets instead. Dear cosmetics companies…please try to remember that not everyone falls under your paltry two or three shades of product. This little game that we are playing with each other is getting really boring. :/

009 011

Sublime Hand and Body Lotion sample

What a generous sample! A great size for the handbag, and in the winter months (when our hands really suffer from the dry, cold air). I have been enjoying this and using it often. It absorbs quickly, smells great, and leaves my hands nice and soft – what’s not to love?

There it is in the middle. πŸ™‚

May 2013 Rubybox – Special Edition Grazia Box

May 13, 2013 § 2 Comments

Yippee, it’s that time of the month again! I opted in for the special edition Grazia Rubybox this month, as last year the Rubybox team gave me a little heads-up that the special edition boxes usually have nicer goodies in them (hence the fact that the numbers are limited). Let me tell you, I was not disappointed!

001 005 007 008 009 003 002 004

Now that you’re all drooling with anticipation, here’s what was in my May box:

Bvlgari Jasmin Noir perfume sample

I haven’t smelled this yet, but it sounds like a fragrance that will captivate me. Might this be the one that Jan gets me for Christmas this year…? πŸ˜€

Hannon Miracle Hair Treatment sample

Yay, just in time for winter! A super moisturising sample to slather on the dry and damaged ends of my hair. Fabulous!

Lee Stafford De-Humidifier sample

More for my hair, and frizzing from humidity is something I am VERY familiar with! This will be wonderful on those nights at the goth club when my hair gets all sweaty from the hot, smoky dance floor. I make my life sound way more interesting than it is – those nights only happen once every three months or so, if all of my other responsibilities have been fulfilled. πŸ˜‰

Rubybox Tools Eyeshadow Brush

The Rubybox Tools collection is so many kinds of wonderful. I love that they’ve put together all of the things you need for your beauty routine in one place, with one lovely branding. Seriously people, the boxes and such are just so pretty! I collect make-up brushes so this is a great inclusion. πŸ˜€

015 016 017

The Body Shop Born Lippy in Pomegranate

Just when I thought this box couldn’t get any better. I adore The Body Shop, and I am very glad that I got the pomegranate one as I already have a little tub of the strawberry one – just perfect! The new tube package makes it perfect for on-the-go use and not getting the product all dirty or your fingers full of product. And just look at the packaging. ^_^

April 2013 Rubybox

April 22, 2013 § Leave a comment

I have obviously been terribly lax with posting about my Rubyboxes, but let’s see if I can remedy the situation.
Just to refresh your memories (if you’ve forgotten what a Rubybox is), it’s a little box that gets delivered within the first two weeks of every month, and it contains fabulous little samples and sometimes full-sized products of various beauty products. The price used to be R100 a month but for new subscribers it is now R120 a month, and it’s like getting given a gift for twelve months of the year. πŸ˜€

002 003

So this month we have:

Batiste Dry Shampoo sample

This is a very sweet and actually fairly generous little sample bottle. I have heard many people raving about Batiste dry shampoo, and while it’s not something I’d buy for myself (as I like my hair being ‘properly’ clean…more a mental thing than anything else) I’ll happily give it a go. Who knows – it may convert me too!

Diesel Loverdose sample

Described as: “The very composition is floral – spicy, opening with star anise and mandarin. Sambac jasmine, licorice and gardenia petals form the core of the composition, placed on an oriental base of amber, vanilla and woody notes.”
I really like this one, and wouldn’t mind a full-size version of it…*wink wink* at my generous boyfriend. πŸ˜‰

Nyx Ultra Pearl Mania loose eyeshadow full size

This is absolutely gorgeously pigmented, spreadable, reasonably-priced, and can even be used as a highlighter due to the neutral colour. I am definitely going to check out the other shades when I visit Clicks again!

Phytomer Hydracontinue hand cream sample

This does what it says it does – it smells very light but nice, and moisturizes my hands. It took a while to sink in, though, and I’ll stick with my Oh So Heavenly hand creams if given the choice.

Vitamin samples – evening primrose oil, and B-cal-D

While I obviously can’t tell for sure if these helped at all, it was a nice idea to include them. I take a calcium supplement anyway, and used to take evening primrose oil for PMS symptoms too.

There you have it! I have signed up for a special edition Rubybox in May, so hold thumbs that I can write about some really exciting products for you all. πŸ™‚

December 2012 Rubybox

January 7, 2013 § Leave a comment

This Rubybox was really a total disappointment; I had hoped for something special in the christmas edition but alas, it was not to be.

Decleor Lip and Eye Cream sample

This is a generous sample in a nice container. The cream is lovely on eyes, very gentle and moisturising.

Garnier BB Cream samples in light and medium

I was so excited about these samples, as I’ve been dying to try a good BB cream. They were foil sachets, packaged in a little organza bag. Sadly, I have very fair skin and even the light sample was glaringly obviously too dark. I am starting to doubt I’ll ever find a BB cream or tinted moisturiser that matches my skin tone. I gave the samples to my far more tanned mother and sister.

Paula’s Choice samples

Also foil packages in organza bags, these were nice but not as generous as the Decleor sample.

Rubybox Tools Foundation Brush

The only thing that I really liked in this box! The brush works beautifully. I find that it gives greater coverage and a better texture but makes my foundation go on much thicker, which is not exactly ideal for a hot and sweaty summer. I’ll probably enjoy using this in winter and for special occasions. It’s a lovely, quality brush.

Where Am I?
