This is one of those brands that I just adore; Oh So Heavenly makes delicious-smelling bath and body products for prices that won’t make you flinch (always good on a student budget!).
So this little hand serum was my “I have no idea what this is or what it does but let me buy it because it looks nice” purchase of the month. I’ve never heard of or seen a hand serum before I came across this in Clicks. A cursory Google does not reveal a page listing the differences between hand serums and hand creams, but here’s what I have noticed:
This hand serum absorbs really, really quickly. It does not leave any residue on the skin, aside from its good-enough-for-me-to-consider-eating-my-own-hands-off scent of pure honey and almond oil. Oh, the yum…THE YUM! They have other products in this range of scents, too, so guess what’s coming home with me next month? 😀
I digress. It absorbs quickly, smells amazing, leaves no residue, and is of a thinner consistency than a normal hand cream. It also comes with a little pump-type lid that is very cute (but tricky to work if your hands are slippery with serum so make sure you get enough out on the first go).
Finally, the bottle is transparent, so you can see how much product you have left, and it’s a very nifty little size that fits perfectly in my hand (or handbag).
I am definitely sold on hand serum!

Lookie at what I finally managed to get my hands on! It looks like only the bigger Essence stands stock these, so try your luck at a shop in a mall (I found them at the Centurion Mall Dischem).
So, can we just take a moment to acknowledge how freakin’ awesome the packaging is? This is totally a novelty thing, and I’m not shy about admitting it either. Look. How. Cool.
If you’ve been following my blog as religiously as I hope that you all do (wink, nudge) you’ll know that my new go-to lip thing is lip stain. I love how convenient and low-maintenance lip stains are, and I’ve been experimenting with a few different versions of them. See previous reviews here https://notnecessarilyrelevant.wordpress.com/2013/05/07/a-few-new-additions/ and here https://notnecessarilyrelevant.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/catrice-colour-infusion-longlasting-lipstain-review/ .
This one definitely holds up to the others. It smells lovely and sweet, and also has a sweet taste (which is quite pleasant). It’s easy to control the intensity of the colour by applying more or less, it goes on like a gel and can be spread and blended, then it gets sticky and finally it dries. It doesn’t last incredibly long, but re-applying is easy and it’s nice to whip out the pretty bottle. ^_^
Now, me wearing it (selfies for you all!). First, just a hint of colour. Second, more intense colour. 🙂
This stuff’s only R29,99, so I know what my next make-up purchase will be. Must have all the colours!

Rubybox, yippee! My review is a little late, but you know what they say – there’s never a bad time to show everyone your new beauty goodies (or is that ‘better late than never’?)…either way, here we go!
Just to refresh your memories (if you’ve forgotten what a Rubybox is), it’s a little box that gets delivered within the first two weeks of every month, and it contains fabulous little samples and sometimes full-sized products of various beauty products. The price used to be R100 a month but for new subscribers it is now R120 a month, and it’s like getting given a gift for twelve months of the year.
This month’s box had gorgeous packaging…and I am such a sucker for packaging. 😉
Alila Lipstick full size
I am very chuffed about this one! I’m trying desperately to get into the swing of wearing stuff on my lips, and this is a gorgeous cool-toned red that makes teeth look whiter. It also seems to leave a bit of a stain behind on the skin, which will make the colour last even longer. 🙂
Body Choice Sponge full size
While I haven’t had a chance to try this out yet (exfoliating without water feels a bit strange to me) I think that this is definitely the week for it. I like the way that it sounds in the description and it’s awesome to get a full-sized product that I would not normally buy (the whole point of Rubybox, actually – try before you buy). 🙂
Ponds All-In-One Even Tone Expert BB Cream samples
Sheesh, what a mouthful! Unfortunately I cannot try this BB cream out, as (with every BB cream I’ve ever encountered) it is WAY too dark for my fair skin and makes me look horribly and obviously orange. I hope my mother and sister will be able to get some use out of these generous sachets instead. Dear cosmetics companies…please try to remember that not everyone falls under your paltry two or three shades of product. This little game that we are playing with each other is getting really boring.
Sublime Hand and Body Lotion sample
What a generous sample! A great size for the handbag, and in the winter months (when our hands really suffer from the dry, cold air). I have been enjoying this and using it often. It absorbs quickly, smells great, and leaves my hands nice and soft – what’s not to love?

I’ve gone quiet again – I know, I know, it’s terrible for keeping my readership up if I don’t post regularly! I feel like lately all I do is apologise for how quiet I’ve been. 😉
However, if you’re wondering what I’ve been so busy with, this is the post for you.
Last month (May) I finished my first semester exams on the 27th. I was ridiculously happy to be finished as this has definitely been one of the toughest semesters of my life thanks to a bunch of external factors that I couldn’t control. Then I had a week of helping Jan pack up the flat, and then we moved to our new house in Centurion!
And then I went in for major surgery.
So it’s been an interesting mix of positives and negatives but I’ve managed to survive. The less said about surgery, the better. I took the month to recover from the physical and mental wounds it left, and, also, we didn’t have internet in the new place until yesterday because migrating a line is apparently a fucking huge mission for everyone involved.
Jan and I are doing well; I have started attempting to learn how to drive again (wish me luck with that) and I’m reading lots of books and watching many series. Merla is slowly getting used to the new place and seems to be enjoying the extra space. 🙂
My next semester should start mid to end July, so I need to choose subjects and register pretty soon, but I’m actually looking forward to having a semester during which I can just focus on my work and not have to deal with all of the medical worries that were my burden during the first half of the year. In theory, my marks should improve (but I’m not betting on it).
To be read:
Currently watching: True Blood season 5 (and I am still in awe of how terrible this show has become).
Currently listening to: Little Green Cars

Well, I got myself a blush, so of course I needed something to apply it with. 😉
This completes my little collection of Essence make-up brushes. I think they’re absolutely fabulous – they’re pretty, effective, and cheap! I love having them in my personal make-up kit.
The angle of this brush takes a bit of getting used to but it picks up a good amount of the product and distributes it evenly without leaving lines or clumps of colour. I like that the tip is black so that I can see how much product it has picked up, too.

I always liked storms –
Wind and fury –
It was nice to see my inside on the outside for a change
An odd sort of post mortem to determine the cause

So we sit together in the stagnant night,
Trapping creatures of memories
In cardboard cages bound with singing tape
The scent of dust and the scent of ink (permanent, immortal) twisting like dust
Motes in the still air
Wrapping another cage around us –
The cat can sense upheaval
(The new-ness and strange-ness and change-ness that flow from us in waves)
And she is acting up; darting and dancing through the obstacle course
She is a fleeting wisp of white and a dazzling portent of the future.
